I used to be a really good writer.
Or at least that is what I used to think. At the time I had grown my blog readership to almost 30k per month visitors. <- That’s a lot Y’all! I had emails pouring in telling me how amazing I was. I mean, I wan’t really making that much money, but man was i having fun.
Then something happened- it’s called life. And everything changed. i quit writing, I went back to work in the corporate world, and I left my bog untouched- for YEARS. And not to say that anything is wrong with the corporate world, so you creatives that are anti-corporate can relax. It’s not the devil. I loved my job and that is why I walked away from my blog and business. Not for any other reason.
Two things I want to point out:
- When I started blogging I had NO idea what I was even doing. I had no clue. NONE. I was simply writing my feelings, writing my experiences, writing what I knew.
- Now that I am re-starting to write, it has been sooooo hard. I constantly wonder if what I am writing is “good enough” <-to this at the moment I am definitely saying a big ole “fuck it” *shrugs and keeps writing*
But that is life. And what I have learned is that sometimes you just have to ACT, and then let the details work themselves out. Because they will. People are scared of messing up, being wrong, putting them selves out there and being embarrassed.. but the real embarrassment, the real disappointment comes when you don’t do anything. And another year passes, and you still haven’t written that blog post, or buckled down to grow your business, or started the podcast you’ve now been talking about for 5 years…
That is the REAL disappointment.
If you are waiting for motivation, inspiration.. the “right” time…
You will never start. Because something sitting in place has no energy. It’s not until it starts moving where the energy comes in and the momentum builds.
You don’t have to be the best. You don’t have to know everything. You don’t need inspiration. Fuck motivation. You just have to act. And that takes courage. But the good news is, the more you get ballsy and ACT more, the easier it will become to put yourself out there, over and over again.
You’re never going to be 100% ready and it’s never going to be just the right time, but that’s the point. It means that every moment is also the right moment. If you want it, you just have to do it.
