And that’s fine, having a blog business plan doesn’t have to be about monetary gain. Having a blog doesn’t have to be about monetary gain.
It can be about giving back, making a difference, and sharing your ideas.
Or it can be about both.
Either way, after you drift around aimlessly in the blogosphere for a while scratching your blogging itch, you are going to eventually want more. More comments, more traffic, more attention, and maybe more money.
It’s natural for us to want more, and I would encourage you to always want to grow.
This is where your plan comes in, your Blog Business Plan.
Wait, before I lose you to thoughts of a long, laborious, useless plan (exactly what a traditional business plan is), that’s not what I am talking about (whew). What I am talking about is EASY. And developing your plan consists of a few easy (not time consuming) steps.
Write it down
The first step to creating this plan is to write it down. Grab you pen and paper and get ready to jot down whatever comes to mind. (You can worry about organizing them later).
Do it how you want to
I could blab on about how I create my blog business plan but really I would be doing you a disservice. You have to do what’s best for you. The biggest creativity killer is trying to do what works for someone else.
If you are a really organized person, then create a formal looking plan. If you are like me, your plan will be on notebook paper with doodles of hearts and geometric lines mixed with a little crayon (don’t judge me I am a mom) all over it.
Yes I still prefer good ole pen and paper to typing it out.
Make sure you include goals
Goals are key to any strategy or plan. Make sure you include “how much” and “by when”. Make your goals as specific as possible because vague goals produce vague results.
Have a content strategy
Lay out a plan for creating your content. Maybe you want to focus on building a content landing page with very targeted content. Maybe you want to spend a month writing content about FB ads… It doesn’t matter. Just have an idea of what kind of content you want to share and how often you will be sharing it.
Then write it down and stick to it NO MATTER WHAT.
Marketing strategy is a must
After you create all of this memorable content, you need to have a plan for how you will market it. Will you send it out to your email subscribers? On social media? What headlines are you going to use to get people to click your links?
How are you going to create a buzz about that content. Be specific.
Throw perfection to the wind
For pink’s sake just DO IT! You can also go back and change it, you can always grow and evolve from this process. The idea here is to get it down on paper and for you to be taking purposeful actions toward building a successful blog each and every day.
Wasting your time trying to lay out some big, elaborate blogging plan will be just that – a big ole’ fat waste of time. Be simple, to the point, and creative. Have fun with it.
So now I’m curious? How many of you have a blog business plan? I’d love for you to share with me below if you have and if it’s helped you to actually write it down.
