4 Secrets To Web Copy That Sells

angie m jordanWithout a paying customer you have nothing.

I mean you still have your family, and love, and whatever super mushy stuff you cling to, but you don’t have a business.

So, no matter what you are doing and what kind of value you are adding to the world and to your readers, it’s not going to mean very much when you have to stop because you aren’t making a dime… got it?

Writing web copy is the most important thing when it comes to trying to sell something online whether it is a product or a service. It’s all about seducing your readers, adding real value, and delivering on your promises. And bottom line is, without sales, you don’t have a business.

So let’s talk about how to create web copy that sells, because what you write can have an enormous impact on whether or not people trust you enough to buy from you.

4 Secrets To Web Copy That Sells

Make it about them

Web copy that sells is all about the consumer. It’s talking directly to the consumer, it’s using the word “you”, it’s making it all about their needs and wants. If you have a product, you won’t sell it by explaining what the product is, you will sell it by letting people know what it can do for them.  It’s all about them.

Tell them what they are going to get, and then give it to them

No matter what you are writing you should always give your readers an idea of about what they are about to read and why they should read it. It’s like creating a short “trailer” for your blog post or sales page, or whatever. If you want people to read beyond your first paragraph you are going to have to tell them what they are going to get for reading.

Make it so good they can taste it

When you give “it” to them, make it good. Don’t promise more than you deliver. Your writing has to seduce your readers. Make them want you. Make it so good they can taste it. How? Stop being boring.

It’s like a first date, and if you want to get laid, you’ve got to do some work. Be interesting, different, and pay attention to your date (aka your readers). They can instantly tell if you are all about yourself, or if you are genuinely interested in them.

Tell them why, and make it matter

Relevance. It’s all about making your content relevant to your audience. If you can’t tell them why it matters to them, then your content is missing a vital element. Tell your readers why they should do what you say.

Bonus Tip: Make it urgent! Creating a sense of urgency compels people to buy NOW.

Bottom line is, it’s all about your readers. Talk directly to them, tell them why, make it urgent, and make it relative.

I am already enjoying the seduction and foreplay.. :-) I love the call to action, “Do it now. Before I change my mind.” It reminds me of what we used to say to girls when we were young boys. “I love you very quickly. Say yes before I say no.” :-) Great tips you have there. A few more to add to my bag of tricks, as I continue to work towards writing copy that sells. I will be back with feedback as soon as I make a dime. :-)

I love that you love being seduced ;-) it’s what I do, what can I say?? And I thought I’d mix up my call to action. You know I’m not one to beg. So if you don’t want to be a part… see ya! And yes, I love that you can relate that to you telling girls you love them… lol super funny. Your bag o’tricks must be getting pretty big… And that dime??? You should be on it. You can do it. Not as hard as some make it seem. Let’s do this!

It is a must to make blogs about them and not me. Sometimes I get off on a story and forget to bring it back to my prospect … thanks for this reminder.

It’s easy to forget that we are serving others with our content. We all need a reminder sometimes Pat! xoxo

Yes Barbara, people are searching for answers and how things can help them and improve their lives. If we can find a way to add value to their lives, and communicate that to them, then we all win :-)
