What Do I Blog About? 7 Blog Posts To Keep Your Content From Sounding The Same

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked the question, “what do I blog about?’ from people who know that blogging is a must, but have no clue about starting a blog or what to blog about.  The truth is, most people just don’t think what they have to say is important, or that anyone would want to hear what they have to say.

BIG no-no! Always remember you started somewhere, and though you may not be where you would like to be, there is someone out there who needs the awesome info that is in your head and your head only!  Keep in mind that there is only one perspective like yours-in the world.  You have something unique to offer-so bring it.

Still, I know it can be hard to keep the fresh, compelling content churning week in and week out, so I compiled a list of the different types of blog posts you can write that will help you when you find find yourself asking, “what do I blog about?”

7 Blog Posts That Will Keep You From Asking “What Do I Blog About?’

1. The how-to post

The how-to post is one of the most popular types of posts in content development and for good reason.  Many how-to posts answer relevant questions, and are evergreen (meaning they never expire or become outdated). They also show your expertise.  Be sure to tie some of these types of posts into your SEO content strategy.  They are also very search engine friendly and help to boost your traffic.

2. Industry news

What have you been reading around the web about your industry?  Share it.  Give your perspective on something that has already been written.  Challenge other opinions.  It not only makes for interesting reads, but it is a great way to start conversations.

3. Answer questions

I get asked questions on Facebook and Twitter all the time. Why not use your blog post to answer those questions.  This very blog post is in response to a question I was asked on Twitter.  It is a great way to generate ideas on what to blog about.

4. Tell a story

People love to be told a story.  True there are some people who like to skim for the cold, hard facts, but there are people who can’t help but be sucked in by a good story.  Mix it up.  This is a great way to do just that!

5. Interview

What industry leaders do you admire?  What peers of yours do you see that are doing well in certain areas you think that your readers would love to know more about?  Ask them for an interview.  Why not? It’s a great networking tool and a great way to connect with other men and women in business.

6. Number or list post

This post is also an example of a list post.  You just simply list out steps or ideas in this very manner.  The numbers are a dead giveaway that this is a “number” post 🙂

7. Compile a “best of” list

I have found that “best of” lists have great sharing power! Why? Because the people you list on the post are always willing to share that they are “the best”.  If you are not listing people, many “best of” posts have a greater chance of being bookmarked and visited over and over, especially if there are many links within for the reader to check out.

So the next time you find yourself asking, “what do I blog about?’ refer back to these 7 types of blog posts or remember them while creating your SEO content development strategy.  What do you think?
