What Is Copy? And How To Get Your “COPY” On

I went far too long nodding in agreement in conversations about copy without ever really knowing what this “copy” stuff was. After hearing so much about it, I finally asked, “what is copy?”

It’s a valid question that begs to be answered.

what is copy? I’ll explain

Copy, otherwise known as ad copy, is the word used for any written or verbal set of words used to sell a product or service.

Don’t worry, I don’t do cheesy, highlighted, red line slashed copy… Because I think it is, well, cheesy.

Here are some basic copywriting guideline via to help you get started:

have you ever written copy?

My guess is that you have written copy before, but didn’t know that you were doing it, or how to do it in a way that is effective. If you have ever created a landing page, created a headline, took the time to write a tweet, or used a call of action on your website then you’ve written copy.

The question is, was it good copy? The answer is in your results. How well did you convert? If you aren’t measuring your efforts yet, read this post about it.

do we need copy?

Do you want to sell? If you answered yes, then you will need copy. Although, I still consider myself a student of copywriting, I have come a long way from the first day I asked myself the question, “what is copy?”.

want more goodies?

I’m not a copy queen (yet), though I do know a thing or two. But if you like this “copy” stuff and want to learn how to be a better copywriter than go HERE. Thank me later.
